Hal Adelquist entered Walt Disney’s organization in 1932 and rose from animator into the machinery of studio management, eventually working in personnel, overseeing the story department, and serving as a liaison between Walt Disney and the celebrated group later known as the “Nine Old Men.” His most demanding assignment came in the early 1950s, when Disney turned toward television. Working with producer Bill Walsh and other staff, Adelquist helped shape The Mickey Mouse Club from its initial conception and became an associate producer responsible for keeping the ambitious daily children’s series on schedule. The job required him to function as Walsh’s right-hand man while coordinating the competing demands of Disney executives, writers, animators, and production crews.
