When Massacre Video prepared its 2012 DVD, big-box edition, and limited fifty-copy VHS reissue, the surviving master tape of 555 had deteriorated badly. Rather than abandon the release, Justin spliced usable sections from the damaged master together with footage taken from an original VHS copy of the film. The result was effectively a forensic reconstruction of an obscure shot-on-video production, assembled from whatever elements had survived in private hands. Massacre Video later issued the film on Blu-ray in 2024, while the movie's selection by Yale University's Sterling Memorial Library as one of the early direct-to-video films in its collection gave the notoriously rough exploitation picture an unexpected afterlife in an academic archive.
